About the Project
Deconstruct UK Ltd were successfully awarded the Enablement, Subterranean and Structural Alterations package at Project Bond.
The Project, a grade II listed building set within a rare amount of space in Chelsea saw the construction of a 9-meter subterranean annexe formed by Secant Piles to create additional residential living space to the existing property. Deconstruct installed a haul road to service the substantial amount of heavy construction traffic required to service the scheme, ensuring minimal damage to the surrounding landscapes. Over 500 tonnes of structural steel and reinforcement along with 2,500m3 of concrete was placed to create the triple basement structure. A host of other construction activities including underpinning, forming of openings and reconfiguration internally to the Grade II listed house required in excess of 45,000 man hours with zero incidents or accidents incurred.
Project Bond presented a number of challenges, none more so than completing a significant basement construction within the high-profile Chelsea surroundings. The Project was surrounded by occupied residential buildings, the management of which was key to an uninterrupted delivery.
A complex temporary works design was required to ensure the excavation of 16,000m3 of soil, adjacent to a Grade II listed building did not create any adverse effects. This, twinned with the major structural alterations taking place within the building meant stringent monitoring regimes were put in place to provide early stage information should the slightest movement be detected.
Deconstruct UK delivered the scheme with no adverse effects to the existing structures and a defect free watertight triple basement.
