About the Project

Deconstruct UK Ltd were successfully awarded the Enabling Works Package at 19-20 Garlick Hill comprising of:

 Demolition of the existing structure

 Retained facade

 Tower Crane Erection

 Contiguous Piling

 Underpinning

 Archaeological Excavation

 Basement Propping

 Double Basement Construction

 7 Storey Reinforced Concrete Superstructure

The Project, located in the heart of the City of London was subject to significant Archaeological attendance with a number of Roman wells and pits located on the site. Archaeological excavation was carried out until virgin ground was encountered, at which point bulk excavation could commence.

The Project will see the change in use from office space to Hotel upon completion of the scheme.

Project Challenges

19-20 Garlick Hill is located at the Junction of Garlick Hill, Skinners Lane and Little Trinity Lane. Garlick Hill and Skinners Lane are both subject to 7.5 tonne weight limits meaning all deliveries to the Project were banked to the Project via Little Trinity Lane under a Temporary Traffic Order. This was particularly challenging as Little Trinity Lane was being shared with another Project to service their delivery requirements.

Situated opposite the Project is St. James Garlickhythe Church, a Christopher Wren designed Grade II listed building. The presence of this building adjacent our Project meant Deconstruct were required to install noise, vibration, dust and movement monitoring equipment in order to manage the effects of such significant construction work in close proximity to the Historic Church.

Deconstruct UK Ltd achieved a Gold Award from the City of London Considerate Constructors Scheme for the Garlick Hill Project, and the way in which it was delivered .
